Welcome to my website, feel free to have a look around. You can read a little about my books, plus what other people have said about them in the form of reviews. My novel The White Woman on the Green Bicycle was shortlisted for both the Orange and the Encore Award and last year my novel Archipelago won the OCM BOCAS Award for Caribbean Literature.
2014 will be another busy year, with exciting events lined up.
May sees me at the Hay Festival reading from my latest novel, the third in a triology of books set in the Caribbean. June sees the launch of of House of Ashes, my new novel about a botched coup d’état on the island of Sans Amen. July sees me teaching for the Writers Lab in Skyros — and in August I will be teaching for the Arvon Foundation and reading at the Edinburgh Festival. I will also be judging the Life Writing Prize for Wasafiri Magazine in 2014. I very much look forward to reading submissions.
I am also please to annouce that in 2014 I funded the St James Writers Room, a small collective of Trinidadian poets and writers who meet once a fortnight to critique ongoing creative work. I will be spending January-May in Trinidad, teaching, writing and of course participating in the annual carnival and BOCAS literary festival. There will also be a Carib-Lit/Nigel Khan residential workshop administrated by me in early May at Mount Plasir Hotel in Grand Rivière, Trinidad.
For now, peace and love, I hope you find this site interesting.
