Welcome to my website, feel free to have a look around. You can read a little about my books, plus what other people have said about them — in the form of reviews. You can also read about my teaching work or listen to podcasts of me talking about my Orange Prize and Encore Prize short-listed novel, The White Woman on the Green Bicycle. Or you can browse the odd interview in the press, or link through to my author site at Simon and Schuster UK.
2013 so far has been another busy year, the first part of which I resided in Trinidad in order to research a new novel. I was delighted to attend Trinidad’s major international literary festival, the BOCAS-Litfest. I am pleased to say that Archipelago won both the Fiction prize and overall OCM BOCAS Prize for Caribbean Literature.
Back in London for the summer. July sees the paper back launch of Archipelago, both in the UK and USA. There will be readings and signings throughout the summer and continued work on a new book. In August I will be reading at the Mediterranean Literary Festival in Malta and in November I will be at the Hong Kong Literary Festival. I plan to spend the last two months of 2013 in Nepal.
In June 2014 I will be publishing a new novel called House of Ashes. Set on the fictional Caribbean island of Sans Amen, it is part political thriller, part spiritual fable involving knights, dragons, turtles and a botched Coup d’état.
For now, peace and love, I hope you find this site interesting.
